ZECK’S   NORTH   CAROLINA   BARBECUE

ABOUT US

Founder and owner, Jeff Zeckel lived in North Carolina for 18 years. He moved back to his hometown, Noblesville, Indiana in 2000. A few months after Jeff had moved back home, he craved a slab of BBQ ribs one evening. To Jeff’s disappointment, the ribs he bought that night were like dried out shoe leather. In the next couple of months Jeff tried the ribs from the other local establishments. None of the slabs he tried met his expectations for flavor & tenderness.

Sam Zeckel, Jeff’s Dad, owned a successful local bar & restaurant for over 22 years. Jeff decided to use the basic rib recipe he had learned from his father in the late 1970’s.  Jeff decided to try his recipe at the Noblesville Farmer’s Market. He had been volunteering for Noblesville Main Street; they had told him that they had been looking for somebody to sell ribs at the market. The ribs sold well! Zeck’s North Carolina Barbecue was started in 2001!  Jeff said, “I decided to only use slabs of Baby Back ribs, the Filet Mignon of ribs. The ribs we sell are tender, moist, and juicy fall off the bone delicious! I only cook Baby Back Ribs because the meat is thick. I finish the ribs off with my homemade barbecue sauce!” The sauce Zeck’s makes is mild with a superb flavor so it will appeal to many people. I sell gourmet hot sauces for those that want to kick it up! Over time, Jeff took what his Dad taught him and added his own spin on the BBQ he makes.

At the first Farmers Market Zeck’s participated in, they also sold a premium gourmet Pulled Pork where they combine the best of both worlds, the smoky flavor from North Carolina Barbecue and the Indiana Barbecue method of simmering the sauce into the pork. The Pulled Pork has proven to be very popular! Zeck’s has developed a loyal following. At the Market, we sell mainly Pulled Pork by the Pound but still sell a fair amount of sandwiches at the Farmers Market. Zeck’s products can be purchased every Saturday during the Noblesville Farmers Market season. The Farmers Market runs from the third weekend in May until the last weekend in October.
